Mountainville Dental offers dentistry for the entire family. We understand that adults and children have different needs and we address them all. Adults want the best technology, the most informed doctors and the highest-quality care, while kids want to be comfortable and respected. That’s why our dentists have extensive experience working with both adults and children. We can make your dental experience more enjoyable for everyone.
This includes our regular dental hygiene visits, sealants, mouthguards and patient/parent education. We place a high emphasis on sealants, which are effective in preventing tooth decay on the biting surfaces of chewing teeth. This plastic coating, which is clear or tooth-colored, is applied to deep pits and grooves. This seals them in the areas where decay is most likely to begin. At less than half the cost of conventional fillings, without anesthetics or drilling, sealants are one of the most important preventive services we have.
Periodontal (gum) disease can lead to more than just an unsightly smile – it can cause loss of teeth and eventually, if left untreated, serious health problems. Called gingivitis in its early stages, periodontal disease is caused by excessive toxic bacteria (found in plaque) that attack your mouth’s soft tissues. Early warning signs of this disease include red, swollen, bleeding gums. If caught early, we can help you reverse the damage. If detected late, we can use one of the many effective cosmetic dentistry procedures to restore your mouth to a healthy, beautiful state. Let our doctors help you keep your teeth and gums strong and disease-free with regular examinations and cleanings.
Oral Cancer Screening
Early detection is key in the battle against cancer, and this is no different with oral cancer. Even if you don’t smoke, keep in mind that 25% of oral-cancer diagnoses are for non-smokers. It’s important that every patient receive a simple and pain-free oral cancer exam from at every regular dental hygiene visit. Remember that when caught early, oral cancer has an 80 to 90% survival rate. So don’t put off your examination another minute! It’s affordable, painless and could save your life.
We understand your concerns regarding the use of mercury fillings. Accordingly, at our office we have elected to use only the new advanced fillings made of tooth-colored materials that contain no metals or mercury as an alternative to traditional silver fillings.
Are you aware that the days when tooth ailments and cavities could only be treated with unsightly metal fillings are gone? Today, modern, tooth-colored fillings made of durable resin or porcelain can be bonded to your teeth for a stronger, more natural-looking effect. These revolutionary fillings are virtually undetectable and are easy to apply.
Root Canal Therapy
Did you know that each tooth contains a long, thin strand of dental pulp that extends through the tooth’s root and provides the tooth with nutrients and nerve? If the pulp becomes infected or injured and the nerves die the tooth might have to be removed. Root canals are designed to save such damaged teeth. During the procedure (after the tooth is numb), the diseased pulp is removed and the tooth is permanently sealed with a porcelain or tooth-colored crown. We are happy to provide single-appointment root canal therapy for you.
With advanced and surprisingly comfortable endodontic therapy you have an alternative to tooth removal whereby you’ll retain full use of your natural teeth. Endodontic therapy involves the removal of tissue from inside the tooth that has been damaged by trauma or infected by decay. After the pulp is removed, the pulp chamber and root canal system is cleaned, disinfected and sealed. Once a root canal is completed, two other procedures are generally needed to complete the restoration of the tooth. These are done by the general dentist.
We offer in-office digital x-rays for your convenience. Digital x-rays are computer-generated images. These images require up to 90% less radiation than with conventional film-type x-rays. Instead of using the traditional silver-oxide x-ray film that must be developed and then fixed in caustic and environmentally damaging solutions, the new system takes pictures via a small electronic sensor and instantaneously transmits a picture of the tooth onto the video monitor in the treatment room. Therefore, we can see your teeth and surrounding structures immediately. Feel free to contact us for more details or to make an appointment!
